

The girls enjoyed munching on chips, cupcakes and cookies – and their favorite, a dreamy chocolate fountain – at the snack station. The New Members conducted an ice breaker to learn fun facts about one another and set up three stations of snacks, tote bag decorating and journal/mug decorating. January Daytop Project On Janulots of smiles and laughs were had by the girls at Daytop as well as the JLM New Members which made the evening a huge success. At the end of the evening, the New Members gave each Daytop resident a canvas tote loaded with goodies donated by Johnson & Johnson. The Daytop residents enjoyed expressing their creative side, then eating their beautiful and delicious creations. (December Daytop Project - On December 8, 2009, half of the New Members hosted an evening featuring a human bingo game, cookie decorating, making gingerbread houses and decorating photo cards. In the fall and winter, the group planned two evenings to enrich the lives of the female residents of Daytop, a residential substance abuse treatment program in Mendham. The New Member Committee kicked off the 2009-2010 year in early October with 24 local women joining. The participants walked away with new healthy snack ideas, beverage choices and prizes. They also enjoyed practicing yoga, playing “fruit” (a version of basketball “horse”), face painting and the ever popular fruit and veggie bean bag toss. The children learned to “craft” a healthy plate of food, make a fruit pizza, sort foods into the pyramid groups, grow their own salsa and saw how much sugar is actually in a soda. Kids in the Ki tche n Neighborhood House Event - On Apthe balance of the New Member class welcomed thirty-two children to the Neighborhood House in Morristown for a fun and educational afternoon of healthy eating and living. Parents and kids alike enjoyed delicious homemade smoothies while viewing a slide show and pamphlets promoting good nutrition and active lifestyles. Children earned prizes at a beautifully designed bean bag toss teaching the value of fruits and vegetables. Kids also made healthy food crowns with images of nutritious food and stickers, and had a blast making their own trail mix out of healthy cereal, dried fruit, coconut and more. One station featured sugar experiments where kids measured the sugar content of soda, candy bars and cereal. Kids in the Kitc hen YMCA Event - On Aphalf of the New Member class set up several tables at the Madison YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day. “Kids in the Kitchen” is a nationally recognized health education program that empowers youth to learn the preparation of healthy meals and educates them and their parents regarding nutrition and healthy choices. This spring, the New Members planned two “Kids in the Kitchen” events promoting good nutrition and healthy lifestyles to local children.
